YO--Half an April, Whole Lotta Crayons

Your Warmup Edition
Appreciate all the support on this. Y’all are some real ones!
Here’s your half April edition to tease what’s coming. My writing might not be top tier (yet), but I promise we’re going to have fun with it.
Marine eating crayons? That’s me.
To be clear, I’m not trying to become a business writer or sell you vacuum’s or anything like that. I just want to fill a gap for cool networking events, and for a place to casually share interesting stuff I come across:
Podcasts
Books
Business ideas
Sermons
Random learnings
You get the idea. If I find it valuable or interesting, I’ll share it here.
I’ll always keep it short and sweet, so you can read and move on.

💬 Writing Like You Talk
I’ve never thought of myself as a great writer. Still don’t. But one of the best pieces of advice I ever got was this:
Write like you talk.
Simple, right? That one came from Uncle Shaan (above average writer, IMO).
He says the way we learned to write in school is absolute garbage. Academic papers, five paragraph essays, formal BS that nobody actually enjoys reading.
Instead, write like you're texting your smartest friend.
Here’s Shaan’s “One Minute Blog” —hit the button, you’ll enjoy it.
Why am I telling you this?
Because it helped me get over the fear of writing or thinking I’m trash at it. I’m also gonna model The Mayor after his format—super informal, kinda messy, hopefully funny, and worth your time.
If you laugh at me, that’s fine. I’m used to it. 😂
He also had a cool blog recently that essentially said don’t be afraid to suck at something.
So here we are.
Writing, Rushing, Sucking (a little).
But sending anyway.
[link to that blog here if you’re interested].
I’m actually rushing writing this one because there’s an interesting event tomorrow I want to share.
Ai is no secret to anyone, but knowing how to use it is key.
The Charleston Chamber is hosting an event in MTP that sounds pretty sharp.
Tomorrow night, 04/09.
5pm at Serendipity Labs (by the bridge).
I’ll put the details below but register here if you’re interested.
I think they’re almost sold out for non member tickets, so I’ll try and do better next month.
(I’ll be there if I can get a ticket—but this is more just a test run than anything)
Event Details

4:30 – Check-In Starts

That’s all for now. I’m off to be terrible at something new…like May’s newsletter. (shooting to have a list of stuff for you)
See y’all around.

aka the mayor (unofficial but unanimously voted title, zero political power)
P.s. I have listened to a bunch of free book’s recently using an app called Hoopla, which is free for Charleston County residents. You just need a library card.
Growth Hacker Marketing by Ryan Holiday was my most recent. (so good)
[also if there’s an event coming up I should know about or just want to chat, hit me with a reply]
Feedback is welcome.
